Hailing African free trade agreement, Guterres

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres
has welcomed the singing of a continental free trade agreement in
Africa that has created one of the world’s largest trading blocs with
over 50 countries.

The 11 countries forming the Comprehensive and
Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) are now
beginning their domestic processes to ratify the accord, with the
hopes of bringing it into force “expeditiously,” possibly even this
year or in early 2019.

Nations (ASEAN) and Australia met in Sydney on 18 March to discuss the
next steps for their Strategic Partnership, initiated in 2014, with
regional trade agreements, digital trade, and sustainable urbanisation
high on the agenda.
