CUTS seminar

September 13, 2005, Business Standard

A state level workshop was organised on the impact of WTO and economic reforms in Burdwan by the Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS). More than 60 participants representing different NGOs from different districts of the state attended this seminar on Grassroot Reachout and Networking in India on Trade and Economics (GRANITE). The focus was on agriculture and textiles with particular emphasis on handlooms. A perception study of the various stakeholders had been conducted by CUTS with the support of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation and Novib (Oxfam, Netherlands) which revealed that there was not much information amongst the economically less privileged people to cope with the situation in facing the challenges and in availing the opportunities.
