Successful trade-in-biodiversity cases shown at CITES meeting

Representatives of UNCTAD’s BioTrade Initiative, attending a CITES and Livelihoods Programme workshop in Guangzhou, China (6–8 November), highlighted the benefits and incentives legal trade in wildlife can provide, including by reducing poaching, promoting more positive attitudes toward conservation, and conserving the habitats of CITES-listed species and others.

Vietnam becomes member of UN Commission on International Trade Law

Vietnam has for the first time become a member of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), singing up for a six-year term. The Southeast Asian country won 157 out of 193 votes at an election during the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the US, on December 17.
