NEED launches GRANITE Programme

To create awareness about the WTO among farmers, Need, an NGO, launched its Grassroots Reachout and Networking in India on Trade and Economics (GRANITE) programme at a city hotel on Saturday.

Speaking on occasion, principal secretary, Agriculture, G.B. Patnaik said it was important to make the farmers and the textile workers aware about the policies of the WTO and how they can affect them. Talking about GRANITE programme head of Need Anil Kumar Singh said the programme which was being run in several states, focused on agriculture and textile sector.

He said although India was the first one in WTO the farmers of the country were still unaware of it. He said that a mass campaign would be organised in five regions of the state.

Other speakers included T.N. Dhar, Prof. R.P. Singh from IIM, MKS Sachan of the Agriculture Marketing Board and others.
